Clint Mansell

I don't know much about Clint Mansell, besides the fact that is a great composer. Of his work the ones that stand out for me the most are the soundtracks that are made for the director Darren Aronofsky. The films Pi, Requiem for a Dream, and The Fountain all have different elements and style to them. In Pi, the composer has created a chaotic theme of confusion and hopelessness. The repeating theme and continuing detachment of the main character's mind to reality really works together. In Requiem for a Dream, there are three parts to the film: Summer, Fall, and Winter. And with these changing themes, the style of the music changes as well. Continuing to sound more dreading and dreading as it progresses until the final climax of the story. Not only is the theme from Requiem a great one, but it has been used for many other trailers: Lord of the Rings and Lost to name a few. Finally in the film, The Fountain, Clint has changed his style and uses heavy piano themes and guitar riffs. It is to display the love between the two characters, and the thought of eternal life. All in all this is my favorite of the three.
Clint Mansell is an different kind of composer, and I'm sure that if you do love movie soundtracks he is one to listen to.
